This project is dedicated to my brother, who recently came out as gay. He shared with me that he had known for a long time, but needed to accept himself before he could open up to our family. Witnessing his journey made me realize how little I truly understood about what he—and many others—go through.
This experience deeply moved me and inspired the creation of this project. It became a personal and educational journey, during which I learned a great deal about the LGBTQ+ community and the broader movement. I also came to understand that a lack of awareness often leads to misunderstanding and rejection.
The aim of the project was to create a visually engaging, accessible book that helps bridge this gap in understanding. The design uses only magenta, black, and white, with the visual balance reflecting the relative importance of the content. The result is a clear and expressive piece intended to inform, support, and inspire empathy.

The structure of the book mirrors a user’s growing interest and understanding. It begins with accessible content and gradually builds toward more complex and nuanced topics. The opening chapter focuses on the history of the LGBTQ+ community in Hungary — a critical foundation for understanding the perspectives and struggles of those within the movement.
Throughout history, this community has faced significant resistance and internal conflict. However, key events eventually created opportunities for self-expression and visibility. The book highlights these turning points, emphasizing both the hardship and resilience of the people involved.
A recurring element in the design is the use of negative language—real phrases and terms that reflect common public reactions. These expressions, often uninformed or misused, are presented starkly to underscore the lack of education and awareness that still surrounds LGBTQ+ topics. By confronting these misconceptions head-on, the book encourages reflection and promotes informed, empathetic understanding.

The second major section of the book explores the rich and colorful expressions used within the LGBTQ+ community. Many of these terms have made their way into everyday language, yet their meanings are often misunderstood — or entirely unknown — by the wider public.
This part of the book aims to clarify these expressions and provide context, helping readers better understand the nuances of identity, orientation, and self-expression. By bridging this knowledge gap, the goal is to foster greater empathy, communication, and mutual respect.
